Leftovers from prisons, greatly reduced  Featured

With bringing of outside food during prison visits being banned in the wake of the Covid-19 epidemic, inmates have been consuming more food cooked in-house, sources say.

Sources add that this has also led to a significant decrease in drug consumption of inmates.

Also, with more in-house meals being consumed, the daily food wastage due to leftovers too, has been drastically reduced.

Earlier, lorry loads of leftovers were taken from all prisons. The Colombo Remand Prison says that earlier, at least 200kg out of the 800kg of rice used for the inmates' meals, were thrown out. However, this has greatly reduced of late.
