19-yr old SL student charged in Ottawa homicides; 6 dead, one injured

In a devastating incident on Berrigan Dr. in Ottawa, the Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit has charged 19-year-old Febrio DE-ZOYSA, a Sri Lankan national believed to be in Canada as a student, with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. 

The incident left six people dead and one person injured.

The victims have been identified as follows:

  1. Darshani Banbaranayake Gama Walwwe Darshani Dilanthika Ekanyake (f), 35-years-old.
  2. Inuka Wickramasinghe (m), 7-years-old
  3. Ashwini Wickramasinghe (f) 4-years-old
  4. Rinyana Wickramasinghe (f), 2-years-old
  5. Kelly Wickramasinghe (f), 2 months old
  6. Amarakoonmubiayansela Ge Gamini Amarakoon, 40

The incident unfolded when two 911 calls were received reporting a suspicious incident where a man was yelling for help. 

Police arrived promptly, arrested the suspect without incident, and discovered the victims inside the home.

The youngest victim was less than three months old.

Chief Eric Stubbs of the Ottawa Police Service detailed that an edged weapon was used in causing the deaths and injuries. 

The injured individual, the husband of Darshani Dilanthika Ekanyake, is currently in the hospital in stable condition.
