Port workers called off trade union action

The trade union action launched by the Port workers had been called off today following a discussion with the Prime Minister.

At least 23 trade unions launched the strike and a Satyagraha since last Friday demanding the sale of the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port to India be terminated, and its operations are taken over by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

A special discussion was held with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Carlton House in Tangalle this morning regarding the relevant trade union action.

The Port trade unions said that they had decided to suspend their protest actions as the talks were successful.
