Dilshan too cannot go to Parliament! Featured

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) yesterday (07 August) handed over the names of those who were included in the National List seats in the 2020 Parliamentary Election to the Elections Commission.

According to the results of the general election, the SLPP is claiming 17 National List seats.

The names in the list consists of Chairman of SLPP Prof. G. L. Peiris, President’s Counsel Ali Sabry,President's Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe, Retired Teaching Instructor Manjula Dissanayake,Yadamini Gunawardena,Yadamini Gunawardena,Yuthukama’ Chairman Gevindu Kumaratunga, , Senior Professor Ranjith Bandara,former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral, Mohamed Muzammil,General Secretary of SLPP Attorney at Law Sagara Kariyawasam, Prof. Charitha Herath, Dr. Seetha Arambepola, Tiran Alas, Dr. Suren Raghavan, Mohammed Faleel Marjan, and Jayantha Ketagoda.

Although several national level cricketers have represented the country in Parliament since 2010, no cricketer has been given the opportunity this time.

Arjuna Ranatunga, the captain of the World Cup winning cricket team, has also lost the parliamentary election this time.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, the only cricketer who had the opportunity of joining the parliament through the National List, has also lost that opportunity.

Although Tilakaratne Dilshan's name was included in the national list of the SLPP , his name was not included in the list submitted by the party to the Election Commission.

Former test cricket captain Tillakaratne Dilshan had announced at a pre-election press conference that he will contest the general election from the SLPP for the Galle district.

However, his name was not included in the list submitted by SLPP for the Galle District and his name was later included in the National List.

It is said that Dilshan is a founding member of SLPP.
