Investigation on who aided Sampayo Featured

The Attorney General Dappula de Livera has instructed the Acting Inspector General of Police C. D Wickramaratne to investigate and report on who provided protection to the four, including former Negombo Superintendent of Prisons Anuruddha Sampayo and assisted them to hide.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera has also instructed Acting Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne to report on whether Sampayo was arrested in connection with the corruption at the Negombo Prison or he surrendered to the police.

Attorney General's Coordinating Officer Senior State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said that the Attorney General had instructed the Acting IGP to analyze the mobile phone records of the suspects during the warrant period and take steps to find those who had assisted them.

The Attorney General has also instructed to investigate and report on whether  prison officials have been involved in drug trafficking using the sensitive electronic scales found among the prohibited items found in the Negombo Prison,whether they have aided drug trafficking and according to the assets of the suspects whether they have committed any offenses under the Money Laundering Act. 

The Negombo Magistrate's Court issued warrants for the arrest of Anuruddha Sampayo, Superintendent of the Negombo Prison, Upali Sarath Bandara, Nishantha Senaratne , Chief Jailors and Jailor Kalinga Kaluaggala. Sampayo was produced in court 11 days later.
