Kandy tremors can't be taken lightly - GSMB Featured

The recent tremors felt in Kandy cannot be taken lightly as they are not triggered due to human activities, acting DG of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) - Eng. D.Sajjana De Silva says.

The GSMB will appoint a committee comprising scientists from the Peradeniya and Moratuwa Universities today (14), to investigate the repeated tremors felt in Kandy – the third and latest of which took place on Friday (11).

The previous minor tremors were attributed to limestone deposits in the surrounding area. The one that occurred on Friday night was recorded at 1.79 on the Richter scale and was felt in Kundasale, Panwila and Wattegama.
