70% of energy demand to be from renewable energy by 2030 Featured

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says plans should be formulated to generate 70% of the country’s electricity demand from renewable energy sources by 2030.President Rajapaksa speaking at a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday on future plans of the State Ministry of Solar, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Project Development.

The President said renewable energy sources should be used in order to pave the way for sustainable development that will enable future generations to reap its benefits.

He added that institutions that can approve power generation projects should compile and maintain feasibility reports while approval should be granted expeditiously.

The President also claimed that if approval is not granted for a project within 14 days, it should be considered as approved.

President Rajapaksa instructed the Secretary to the President to issue a circular to all institutions to provide necessary assistance for the promotion of renewable energy.
