SriLankan Airlines employees nabbed over visa scam!
A group of employees from SriLankan Airlines has been produced in court after being arrested by the CID.
The arrests were made over a racket where they have earned billions of rupees after smuggling a large number of persons after printing fake visas, fake immigration stamps on passports and issuing fake boarding passes.
The CID has also nabbed the mastermind of the racket, known as Newton or W. Ajith, who is a resident of the Wennappuwa area.
The racket was unveiled after one Waruna Goonetileke, was arrested at the airport on July 27 while attempting to travel to Italy using a fake visa and immigration stamp.
Further investigations had revealed that four employees of SriLankan Airlines, namely Newmal Ratnasekera, John Shimon Roger, Dilik Madusanka Fernando and Narada Thileepa Peiris had been involved in printing out the fake Italian visa.
The suspects faced charges of aiding and abetting fraudulent activities and organizing illegal foreign trips.
The suspects had sought bail in court and all except W. Ajith and Narada Thileepa Peiris were released on bail on strict conditions.
Rejecting the bail applications of W. Ajith and Narada Thileepa Peiris, Negombo Chief Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya ordered to remand them until Sep. 29 when the case will be taken up again.
