The Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya stated that the investigation is being conducted by a Senior Superintendent of Prisons.
It is reported that a sergeant who worked at the Kuruwita Prison had planned to carry out the murder through an inmate. The sergeant being assigned from internal duties to outside duties, by the superintendent, is revealed to be the main reason behind this.
The Kuruwita Police have also informed the Ratnapura Chief Magistrate that a special investigation will be launched into the incident over a complaint lodged with them.
Kuruwita Police further informed the court that the suspect had used a heroin dealer and an underworld figure currently being held at the Colombo Remand Prison, to put the murder plan to action.
The Sergeant has been transferred to the Pallekele Open Prison on charges of dealing with heroin traffickers and underworld operatives, Prisons Commissioner General Thushara Upuldeniya said.
