'Operations to nab underworld, successful' Featured

Crimes such as murders, extortions, assaults and shootings carried out by an underworld gang have come to a complete standstill, said Director of the Crimes Division and Organised Crime Division - DIG Priyantha Jayakody.

The DIG had also said that no complaints or incidents regarding underworld crimes have been reported during the last four months.

Police say that underworld activities have drastically reduced after stiff operations against the underworld were conducted on the instructions of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Last week, Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne announced that the Police Department had decided to increase the cash rewards given to police officers who successfully carry out operations and to informants who provide information about illegal firearms.
