Noting that there is already a surplus of 900,000 metric tonnes of rice for 2021, the AIFF National Organiser - Namal Karunaratne says it should be clarified on which basis it was decided to import rice when such a surplus exists.
He was speaking at a media briefing held in Dambulla today (25).
Earlier, it was reported that Lanka Sathosa has reportedly requested a loan of Rs. 2,241 million from the People's Bank to import rice required to maintain a safe stock of rice in the country.
