2 officers interdicted over missing paddy stocks

Two officers have been interdicted over an incident where 700,000 kg of paddy stocks had gone missing from two government-owned paddy stores in Kurunegala, the Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) says.

According to the PMB Chairman, the missing stocks are worth around Rs. 65 – 70 million.

Last week, Minister of Agriculture – Mahinda Amaraweera had called for an immediate report pertaining to the alleged incident of paddy stocks going missing from 05 government paddy stores in Kurunegala District. The Minister had directed the PMB to handover the report within 03 days.

The Minister had also asserted that a comprehensive inquiry will be carried out through the police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
