Brigadier uses racial slur, death threats on medical staff - GMOA Featured

Quoting the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA), JDS Sri Lanka has Tweeted that a high ranking military officer has threatened medical staff of the Sampathnuwara hospital in Weli-Oya.

A letter by the GMOA attached says that Brigadier K.K.S. Perakum of the Sri Lanka Mechanized Infantry Regiment allegedly used racial slurs and threatened the medical staff of the District Hospital of Sampathnuwara, with death.

The letter has been addressed to the minister of Health - Pavithra Wanniarachchi with copies directed to the Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva as well as several officials including the secretaries of the President and PM.

The letter informs that Brigadier K.K.S. Perakum has 'abused the head of the institution and other medical officers using words like පර දෙමළා, ප්‍රභාකරන්, ත්‍රස්තවාදීන්, තොපි මරණවා, මේක මගේ ඒරියා එක'.

"We attached our communication to Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva on 26.10.2020 for necessary action (Annexure-1)' the letter notes.

"Since the situation at DH Sampathnuwara is not rectified, we are compelled to withdraw the services at DH Sampathnuwara as a trade union measures, considering the safety of our members," it adds.

The GMOA has urged authorities to take necessary action to ensure safe working conditions of the hospital.
