Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said according to the petitioners, Sri Lanka Police was to prevent the LTTE commemoration from the 25th to the 27th of November and sought a writ order from the court to derogate the Police action.
However, the court rejected the petitions and Sri Lanka Police can take necessary action against those who organize the Mahaviru commemoration in the Northern province, said the Deputy Police Chief.
DIG Ajith Rohana said the Jaffna Provincial High Court decision was historical.
The State and the Attorney General were represented by Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, Deputy Solicitor General Haripriya Jayasundara, and Senior State Counsel Zaheeda Bharri.
