Lalith - Kugan case : Summons on President annulled

The Court of Appeal has annulled summons issued on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa by the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court pertaining to the case filed over the disappearance of human rights activists Lalith Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan.

In 2019 September, an interim injunction was issued against summoning Mr. Rajapaksa over the disappearance of these activists.

The interim injunction was issued to the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court by the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Rajapaksa was scheduled to appear at the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court last year in a Habeas Corpus inquiry into the disappearance of the two activists.

They had been reported missing in December 2011 when Rajapaksa was the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.
