Campus freshmen to get state bank loans for laptops Featured

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. Sampath Amaratunga says that the English language and IT will be taught online to the new batch of students being enrolled for universities this year.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department today (24), Prof. Amaratunga said these online lessons will commence from December 2020.

He said that the government banks, especially the People's Bank will be providing loan schemes for students to purchase laptops for their online lessons.

He also said that the online registration of university students for the latest intake has already commenced. Noting that an intake of 41,500 students will be enrolled this time, Prof. Amaratunga said it is the largest number of students enrolled in a year since the country gained independence.

He further noted that the procedure for conducting university examinations online is expected to be released this week.
