Stop violence & harassment - Ratify & Legislate C190"

The Free Trade Zones & General Services Employees Union (FTZ&GSEU) has taken a strong stance against the pressing issue of workplace harassment of women, initiating a  public awareness campaign.

They also urge the government to ratify and legislate the ILO's Violence and Harassment Convention C190.

Taking up the cause, FTZ&GSEU members held a protest and distributed handbills, creating awareness among the public.

Workplace harassment against women usually ends up unreported with victims fearing further intimidation. However, it had become a much discussed topic of late, as two documented cases were reported from two government institutions within a span of just over a fortnight.

Earlier this week, a video of a RDA official harassing a female employee went viral online, sparking widespread outcry.

On Nov. 11, a lady doctor at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital revealed to media that she was assaulted by her Consultant when was nine-weeks pregnant.
