CAA under probe over excessive spending Featured

The Auditor General’s Department is investigating an excessive spending by the Civil Aviation Authority to host a conference in disregard to a cabinet decision.

The CAA spent Rs. 7.6 million on the 53rd conference of civil aviation director generals in the Asia-Pacific region from 01 to 05 of August last year at Colombo Hilton.

The cabinet had approved a maximum spending of Rs. two million only.

The CAA had earlier said it would obtain sponsorship worth Rs. 13 million, but it had managed only Rs. six million.

Its top officials had tried to mislead the investigation by sending irrelevant files to the AG’s department for investigation.

The AG’s department has also submitted a report to the secretary of the subject ministry.
