Trading at Maning Market suspended

Police say trading activities at the Maning Market and 4th and 5th Cross Streets will not be allowed to operate, although isolation imposed in the Pettah Police area will be lifted at 5am tomorrow.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Police headquarters Acting Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said although several operations were carried out in those areas prior to the imposition of isolation orders, permission will not be granted from tomorrow.

The DIG noted a majority of those employed at the Maning market and 4th and 5th Cross Streets are residents of Colombo North, in which several Police areas are still isolated.

He added there is a high possibility of COVID-19 infected persons being identified from those areas, adding that therefore isolation cannot be lifted.

DIG Ajith Rohana said therefore wholesale trading and distribution of fruits and vegetables at the Maning market and 4th and 5th Cross Streets will be suspended until further notice.

He added however that the main bus stand and private bus stand will function as per usual.
