Mahara Prison unrest : Death toll goes up to 11 (Update) Featured

The death toll due to the Mahara Prison unrest has increased to 11 while the number of injured persons has gone up to 117.

The dead are all inmates while two prison officials are among the injured, police spokesman - DIG Ajith Rohana states.

Mahara prison death toll at 9 ; 38 inmates Covid-19 positive

The death toll due to the Mahara Prison unrest on Sunday evening has increased to nine, reports say.
In addition, 113 inmates with injuries were admitted to the Ragama Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, 38 out of 52 inmates who were injured in the incident have been tested positive for Covid-19, reports add. 
Twenty six of them were identified through Rapid Antigen Tests while the remaining were identified through PCR tests.
