MRI bigwig to be arrested for PCR scam? Featured

The CID has uncovered a racket linked to PCR test kits, involving higher officials of the Health Ministry's supply unit, doctors and a German company, reports say.

It is said that statements have been recorded from about 40 people, including a prominent doctor at the Medical Research Institute (MRI).

According to police sources, the doctor could also face arrest.

It is said that a brother of the MRI doctor holds a considerable amount of shares in the German company, where the PCR kits were brought down from.

A CID report handed over to the President stated that while the World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the purchase of PCR kits for a cost of Rs. 2,000 per kit, test kits were brought down from the German company for twice the amount.

Meanwhile, it is said that the police are to obtain statements from officials of the Judicial Medical Officers Association who had held media conferences to state that 50,000 PCR tests should be conducted daily.

As of last weekend, the PCR tests conducted so far by the Ministry of Health exceeded 1.2 million, which had cost Rs. 7200 million.

Meanwhile, rumours also state that the police had initiated investigations pertaining to PCR tests after a leading businessman closely linked to the government had brought down Rapid Antigen Tests to the country.
