SLMA says burying Covid-19 deceased is not an issue Featured

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) says there is no issue of burying remains of the Covid-19 deceased while following health regulations.

The SLMA, chaired by Dr. Padma Gunaratne says that even if a person is posthumously declared as Covid-19 positive, there is limited room for the virus to spread from the remains as it requires living cells to survive.

The SLMA has issued several recommendations after a discussion with experts on Dec. 31.

The recommendations also note that the possibility of Covid-19 patients' excrement joining the water system could have a more severe impact than a possible contamination due to burials.
