NLB clarifies on lottery tickets with identical numbers

The National Lotteries Board (NLB) has issued a clarification on reports citing two lottery with identical numbers being printed for the same draw.

A media release signed by the NLB chairman / CEO - Lalith Piyum Perera states that the error had occurred due to the negligence of several employees at the Suraksha printing unit of the State Printing Corporation, which prints the tickets.

The press release further noted :
During a meeting on Jan. 07, 2021, the chairman of the State Printing Corporation pointed out to the NLB Director Board and higher officials how the error had occurred, showing CCTV footage. He also noted that 04 officials responsible have been suspended while an internal inquiry as well as an investigation led by the deputy Government Printer have been initiated.

The State Printing Corporation Chairman has also accepted full responsibility for the incident and expressed regrets for the inconvenience. He also added that the most stringent measures have been taken to prevent a repetition of such an error.

Reports of two 'Mahajana Sampatha' lottery tickets with identical numbers had been issued for the draw on Dec. 31, 2020 and photos of the tickets circulated on social media, raising eyebrows.
