Secretary to the Ministry Professor Kapila Perera said discussions between principals, health and education officials on reopening Western Province schools, are expected to be held on either the 28th or 29th of January, or on the 1st of February.
The agreements reached during the discussions will then be directed to the Ministry of Education.
The recommendations are expected to be sent to the Director General of Health Services before the 3rd of February and based on his guidelines, certain approved schools in the Western Province will reopen.
The Western Province has 1,576 schools within 11 zonal areas, and 79,000 students are scheduled to sit the GCE Ordinary Level Examination in March.
Accordingly, classes for Grade 11 students in 907 Western Province schools will be held from Monday.
