PNB case: Interpol notice issued for 14th suspect

Court today ordered a red notice to be issued via the Interpol for the arrest of the 14th suspect, Udara Sampath, in the narcotics case involving officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Mohamad Mihail this morning.

The Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris representing the Attorney General informed Court that the suspect has fled the country with a fake passport.

Accordingly, Court issued a directive to obtain an Interpol red notice for his arrest.

Meanwhile 16 suspects in the case, including 13 officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau, arrested on charges of re-selling seized narcotics to racketeers, were further remanded till the 2nd of February.

The Magistrate ordered the Prisons Superintendent to produce the 16th and 17th suspects in the case before Court.

Several officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau were arrested, detained, questioned and subsequently remanded for selling a stock of confiscated narcotics to drug racketeers and for assisting them in transporting narcotics.

Investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department.
