Covid-19 vaccines will be provided for free - Minister Featured

State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Sudarshini Fernandopulle today said that the Covid-19 vaccine will be provided to the public free of charge, once the inoculation drive begins.

Speaking at a media briefing today (26), the state minister said 300,000 health, Tri-Forces and Policemen in the frontlines of coronavirus mitigation efforts will be vaccinated in the first phase of the programme once around 600,000 Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines will arrive from India this week.

She added that the second dose will be administered 03 weeks after the first dose.

The state minister also said that the vaccines as part of the COVAX programme will cover 20% of the country’s population while the balance requirement will be purchased at state expense and administered according to a priority list.

The State Minister noted that the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation is responsible for importing the remainder of the vaccines.

Like all other vaccines, this too, will be provided to the public for free, she added.
