Director, National Cancer Control Programme, Dr. Janaki Vidanapathirana has said around 80 cancer patients are detected daily in the country as opposed to the tally being 64 in Sep. 2020.
At the present, 15,000 people succumb to the disease annually.
Since 2008, the number of cancer patients reported in Sri Lanka has doubled and 16% of the Sri Lankan cancer patients suffer from oral cancer, she has added.
Dr. Janaki Vidanapathirana has said the use of tobacco and alcohol as well as unhealthy diets are main causes for cancer.
