‘Who runs the country without the knowledge of president, PM?’ Featured

The Sri Lanka National Council calls for an immediate intervention by the president and the prime minister to prevent the unacceptable arrests of military intelligence officers.

The request by chairman of the council, MP Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera came at a media briefing in Colombo today (07).

He pointed to the president’s clear message to relevant authorities that he should be kept informed about any decision pertaining to military intelligence officers.

The public has a big question as to who was running the country without the knowledge of the president and the PM, said the Thera.

Military intelligence rendered inoperative

kamal gunaratneMeanwhile, retired Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratne has said the once-strong military intelligence has now been rendered inoperative.

The situation of national security is not good, he said at ‘Viyath Maga’ conference organized by ex-defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at Golden Rose in Borelesgamuwa on March 04.

Noting that he was an experienced and responsible soldier, he could see and feel and sound an alarm about the plight of the intelligence quarters.

Sri Lanka’s arrest and bringing back of KP who had been in hiding in Malaysia was a good example of the power of the intelligence, he said, adding that such operations had been carried out by only a handful of intelligence organizations the world over.
