Footage of a large fleet of vehicles being parked in near vicinity to the Presidential Secretariat, has been making rounds on social media.

The vehicles are said to have been returned to the new administration after Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected as the new President of Sri Lanka.
Speaking to media in this regard, former MP Wasantha Samarasinghe says that according to documents, out of the 833 vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat, 29 have been missing by 2022.

“We question the recent Presidents on what happened to these missing vehicles,” he said.

He also said that 253 vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat’s vehicle pool had also been used at other institutions.

He also pointed out that more state owned vehicles are now parked near several locations in Colombo including the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

The President has pledged to reduce the number of vehicles allocated to ministers and state officials.

Samarasinghe said that this is just a taste of how the waste of public funds will be stopped under the administration of the National People’s Power.

“This is just the beginning,” he said.
