Police start detecting vehicles with worn-out tyres

Sri Lanka Police has launched a special 72-hour operation from today (March 22) to detect vehicles with worn-out tyres.

The operation was launched at 6.00am today.

Pointing out that nearly 08 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours due to road mishaps, Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said that worn out tyres is one of the main reasons for road mishaps.

Accordingly, the Police Headquarters have issued special directives to launch an operation to detect vehicles with worn-out tyres, he said.

A person having worn-out tyres in his/her vehicle could be fined Rs 3,500 and if a person is injured by a vehicle with worn-out tyres, a fine of Rs 25,000 can be imposed on the offender, he added.
