Polythene, plastic in SL coastal areas killed 100,000 turtles! Featured

More than 100,000 turtles have died during the last 10 years in the coastal area of Sri Lanka due to the polythene and plastics, says Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

At a meeting, Amaraweera has said one million luch sheets are discharged to the environment daily while more than 10 million shopping bags are also added to the garbage.He said the shopping bags are causing severe damage to the environment and during the festive season, the use of shopping bags have shown a rapid increase.
