864 charges filed against Pujith and Hemasiri

Attorney General Dappula de Livera has requested the Chief Justice in writing, to establish two benches comprising three Judges each to separately hear the charges filed against Former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and Former Secretary of Defence Hemasiri Fernando over the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

Coordinating Secretary of the Attorney General State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the Attorney General exhibited information at the Colombo High Court today.

She said the Court case against Pujith Jayasundara and Hemasiri Fernando is in process, under 864 charges.

Jayaratne said the information included sensitive content released by the former Chief of the State Intelligence Service Nilantha Jayawardene that claimed the two suspects disregarded information they received on imminent attacks in Sri Lanka.

She claimed the charges have been filed under the Penal Code on the offence of murder and attempted murder and their serious lapses and grave omissions to prevent the Easter Sunday bombings.
