Sri Lanka gets 15,000 doses of Sputnik vaccine from Russia

Sri Lanka on Tuesday received 15,000 doses of the Sputnik vaccine.

This consignment which was flown to the country early Tuesday was the first consignment of the Sputnik vaccine from Russia.

State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation Prof. Channa Jayasumana was present at the airport to receive the vaccine stock, along with the officials from the Russian embassy.

Sri Lanka has ordered 13 million doses of the Sputnik vaccine.

The order has been made by the State Pharmaceutical Corporation.Prof. Jayasumana said they were hopeful that the balance would also receive soon.

He thanked Russian's Gamaleya Institute for taking steps to send the doses.
