Patients on the rise in Kesbewa & Piliyandala as Gamini Lokuge faces criticism

A dilemma has arisen as to why the isolation in Piliyandala area was revoked in an undue manner despite the number of COVID-19 patients are on the rise.

It has also surfaced that a large number of people who had attended a New Year festival have contracted the virus.

According to health officials, the number of patients are rising in Piliyandala and Kesbewa areas.

Officials say 72 patients have been detected from the Piliyandala area following tests conducted on 92 samples while in Kesbewa, about 400 have been infected within the last 16 days, according to the newspaper reports.

Newspaper reports say among the infected are Thushara Perera, a relative of Gamini Lokuge who is now facing criticism over his alleged role in influencing the authorities to lift the oscillation in those areas.
