Health officials say 101 people in Piliyandala have tested positive for COVID-19, signaling that the situation in Piliyandala is getting worse.
According to the health officials, PCR samples of 305 people have been sent for testing and of them, the results of 260 were delivered on Sunday and that included 101 positive results.
Besides, the Chairman of Kesbewa Municipal Council together with another 35 have been ordered to undergo quarantine after a member of the Urban Council tested positive.
Already, the steps have been taken to close the Piliyandala public market until further notice after random tests showed that several people in the vicinity have tested positive.
Last week, authorities declared a lockdown on Piliyandala after a surge of cases from the area, but it was later lifted and immediately re-imposed on several GN divisions of the area instead.
Minister Gamini Lokuge is facing mounting criticism from many quarters over his alleged role in influencing the authorities to lift the lockdown in Piliyandala and Kesbewa areas, despite the warnings by health officials who urged not to do that.
