Cabinet nod to conserve Muthurajawela

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to a proposal for the conservation and the sustainable utilization of the Muthurajawela wetland zone.

Cabinet Spokesman Minister Udaya Gammanpila said it was decided to appoint a monitoring committee and a working committee to take necessary steps on the matter.

Approval has been granted for the monitoring committee to acquire required state and private land for the implementation of an appropriate conservation methodology subject to the provisions of the Urban Development Act, entrust the responsibility of taking necessary actions in regard to the sustainable usage of the eco system as a wetland to Sri Lanka Land Development Cooperation, declare areas identified under the master plan, conserve as a National Reserve under the Fauna and Flora Ordinance and to take necessary actions to declare Muthurajawela wetland area as a Ramsar Wetland by implementing the master plan that is to be prepared by the monitoring committee.
