Although the Trade ministry had directed that the packages should be obtained from Sathosa outlets and be distributed by District and Divisional Secretariats, the Kesbewa Divisional Secretary had used a group of separate suppliers to obtain the goods for the relief package.
Although the Trade ministry had also specified the items that should be included in the package, several items had been missing.
It is alleged that the goods are not even from shops in Piliyandala or Kesbewa.
Meanwhile, JVP urban councilor Asanka Soyza has also charged that members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Party have politicized the process which looks into the eligibility of residents to receive this relief package.
Residents say that the goods inside the package are worth less than even Rs. 4,000.
