Eyebrows raised at Call for Public Opinion on Thripitaka Draft

Former Director of the Information Department, Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya, has expressed concern over the publication of Notices calling for Public Opinion by the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Kalansooriya questions the reason behind calling for opinion on a subject as important as protecting the Buddhist heritage, with just 6 hours notice given to the clergy, academics and the general public.

"They say a draft bill is in place to protect the Buddha Sasana. Public Opinion is being sought. How can anyone give their  ideas without even seeing the draft? The clergy, academics and the general public have to give their opinion for a subject as important as protecting Buddhism, within 6 hours? What is really going on here?," he has said.
