CAA seizes 1500kg of sugar Featured

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized 1,500kg of sugar stockpiled at the Pettah wholesale market.

CAA officers have been investigating the Pettah wholesale market after receiving complaints that sugar is being sold by flouting price controls.

The CAA had also taken measures to take legal action against 10 traders who had flouted price controls and warned others not to do so.

With the wholesale price of sugar exceeding the MRP, retail traders have stopped selling sugar, leading to a sugar shortage in the market.
