MP’s who fail to attend the Parliament meetings, Sectorial Monitoring Committee Meetings, COPE Committee and Committee on Public Accounts meetings will be revealed to the public.
The Speaker has informed all MP’s in writing, that this information will be revealed to the public through the official Parliamentary web site from May.
According to a request made to parliament under the Right to Information Act, the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs at its meeting on March 21 had taken the decision to release this information to the public.
The certified extracts of the discussions during the Committee meetings on Parliamentary Affairs have been requested under the citizens’ rights and measures have been taken to issue over 500 such extracts under the Right to Information Act.
Accordingly, information has also been sought regarding the attendance of MP’s from September 2015 to December 31, 2016 and measures have already been taken to release this information, it was reported.
It was also revealed that MP Dinesh Gunawardena had explained at length the importance of revealing such information to the public.
However, it was bad news for MP’s who leave home on the pretext of attending parliament and engaging in other activities absconding parliamentary sittings.
