Weerasumana named as acting Chairman after Communist Party removes Collure

Governor of the North Western Province Raja Collure says the Central Committee of the Communist Party had no powers to remove him from the Chairmanship.
A recent statement by Collure pertaining to the teacher principal salary anomalies caused much controversy during the past few days. He had said the salaries of teachers and principals in the North Western Province who do not attend schools that opened under the first phase for the month of November, will be withheld.
Collure said he made a statement as the North Western Province governor and therefore, the Central Committee of the Communist Party has no authority to remove him.
The decision to remove Collure was taken at a meeting of the Central Committee and the Politburo of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka today.  Party Vice Chairman and Parliamentarian - Weerasumana Weerasinghe has been appointed as the acting Chairman of the party.
