Facing criticism is a normal part of our family – Shashindra Featured

In the event the yield of the harvest in the next season is reduced, due compensation will be paid, said the Minister of State for Agriculture Shashindra Rajapaksa.

He gave this assurance while addressing a gathering at the inaugural ceremony of the first release of organic fertilizer for paddy cultivation in the Badulla District.

The State Minister said that President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has taken a decision that will never be taken by a politician contesting an election.

“Gotabhaya Rajapaksa took decisions that would not be taken by a politician contesting an election. If an election is held tomorrow, we will lose. But, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa did not take this decision from a stand-point that he wanted to win an election at all cost regardless of whether people consumed harmful substances and died.”

He noted that as the intention was pure and they would forge ahead regardless of the criticism levelled against them.

“Being criticized and blamed has become a normal occurrence for our family. However, if what we are doing is in good faith and our conscience is clear, we will forge ahead regardless of the criticisms levelled against us. However, my view is that bio-liquid fertilizer goes with that technology. But, we had a doubt on how we would face a situation in the event there is a reduction in yield. In such an event, we as a government have a responsibility and in the event there is such a reduction in harvest, we will pay compensation to these farmers through the Agricultural & Agrarian Insurance Board. Hence, don’t have any doubt about that. As a responsible government we won’t take haphazard and decisions. We will act in full realization of all these factors,” he added.
