No investigation has been conducted on 26 complaints made to the Thalangama and Mirihana Police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga over illegal activities including the alleged acquisition of state lands, ‘Magen Ratata’ Organization President Sanjaya Mahawatta said.

He said Minister Ranatunga enjoys state lands by force and that he has many other charges against him.

“We have an issue with the way the police acted after we made the complaints. That’s why we made a complaint to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL). The Commission has named the OICs of the Thalangama and Mirihana Police and the CID Director as respondents by filing a case against them.”

“When the case was taken up today, only the Thalangama Police OIC was present. The Mirihana OIC and the CID Director were not present. The HRCSL informed us that it will inquire about their absence.”

Meanwhile, the court yesterday (19) acquitted Ranjeevi de Silva, who revealed to the country with video evidence the forceful acquisition of state lands by Minister Ranatunga, from a case filed by the Thalangama Police against her.

The case filed by the Thalangama Police in November 2021 was pending for a year and 10 months.

Ranjeevi de Silva told the media yesterday that she has done nothing wrong.

“The court understood that the case against me was filed by the Talangama Police on the request of Minister Ranatunga.”

“The Thalangama Police did not act on any of the complaints I filed regarding the incident but they filed a case against me. Now it has been revealed that Prasanna Ranatunga has been misappropriating public property. What the Talangama police does is protect the thieves by filing cases against innocent people like me who speak the truth and respect law and order,” she said.

“I will file a case against all the policemen who are responsible for this injustice. Legal action will be taken against the Urban Development Authority as well. We will not give up this fight until the law is implemented against Prasanna Ranatunga since he should not be in a ministerial position but in jail,” Ranjeevi said.
