‘Midigama Lasa’ divulges information about ‘Harak Kata’

Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne alias 'Harak Kata', a member of an organized crime group based in Dubai, has smuggled 720 kilos of heroin, 240 kilos of Ice drugs and 20 modern 9mm pistols into Sri Lanka during a period of five months in 2020, according to the CID. The CID Illegal Property or Assets Investigation Division has reported the matter to the Matara Magistrate's Court.

Lasantha Wickramasekara alias 'Midigama Lasa', who was arrested in connection with a large scale drug trafficking operation in connivance with 'Midigama Nadun' or 'Harak Kata', had revealed these information to the CID during interrogation, the Court was notified.  

It has been revealed that Harak Kata had contacted the suspect using 05 telephone numbers from Dubai and carried out the racket. The CID also reported to Court that Iranian and Pakistani ships had transported these drugs and weapons to the Sri Lankan maritime boundary and from there local  fishing vessels have been used to transport these drugs and weapons into the country. 

Accordingly, in October 2020, the fishing vessel ‘Kanil Putha’ had transported 250kg of heroin, fishing vessel ‘Lakmini 10’ had transported 50kg of heroin in November and 235 kg of Ice and 20 modern 09 mm pistols were transported to the country. In February 2021, 390kg of heroin was transported on board the Sahara multi-day trawler together with 05 kg of Ice. Information had been revealed that these drugs were brought into the country through the Southern coastal areas of Weligama and Mirissa, the CID informed the Court.
