Azath Salley acquitted by the Colombo High Court!

Former Governor Azad Sally was acquitted by Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja today (02) in a case filed against him for allegedly making statements during a press briefing that violate inter-ethnic harmony.

Accordingly, the judge acquitted the accused as the prosecution had failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the charges against him.

The high court judge Amal Ranarajah had ordered on November 19th to decide on whether to acquit and release the accused as the plaintiffs have failed to prove the charges against the former provincial governor beyond a reasonable doubt today (02).

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo on March 9, Sally had said, "Our law is for us ... your law is for you ... we see them as right and wrong. We have no law other than the Qur'an and the Hadith of the Prophet. "

Therefore, Azad Sally had been indicted by the Attorney General in the Colombo High Court for allegedly making statements inciting racial discord under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the United Nations Convention on Civil and Political Rights.
