SJB to back interim govt. only if 21A is brought in!

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has decided yesterday (10) to bring in the 21st amendment to the constitution which limits the powers of the executive presidency.

They had decided that they would support an interim government only if such a move was agreed on.

The SJB had met at the Opposition Leaders Office under the patronage of Sajith Premadasa.

The Leader of the Opposition is also in discussions with other parties regarding the decision taken yesterday (10) and accordingly, discussions were held with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party yesterday (10) afternoon.

The discussion took place at the former president's residence on Paget Road.

Meanwhile, during the debate in parliament on the country’s current crisis, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that the time had come to abolish the Executive Presidency.

He also said that with the abolition of the Executive Presidency, even the Prime Minister should not be given excessive powers.
