US Naval facility to Delft islets? Featured

The US naval facility presently stationed in Diego Garcia islands is being planned to be relocated to Delft islets in Sri Lanka, say political sources.

The US will soon make a diplomatic move in that regard as per the acquisition and cross-services agreement it has signed with Sri Lanka in 2007.

The US naval facility has to withdraw from Diego Garcia islands by the end of this year, as a 14 million dollar, 50 year leasing agreement signed in 1966 with Britain expires.

The US had first tried the Maldives, but had abandoned the idea and is now paying attention to Delft islets due to their strategic location in the Indian Ocean and also in view of increased naval activities in the region by India and China.
