He has pointed out that in the prevailing situation where the entire country is facing dire hardships, he had refused to go ahead with the consultation as soon as he saw the patient's file and asked his staff to fully refund the patient.

Prof. Jayawardena has said that no harm was done legally or ethically.

Pointing out to recent comments made by the minister in Parliament about professors not moulding students properly, the Prof. said that any politician is perfectly capable of going to a government hospital for treatment and no special treatment should be given to VIPs unless it is an emergency situation.
