HRCSL summons top brass

The Secretary to the President, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, and the Inspector General of Police have been summoned before the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) on Monday (9).

Rohini Marasinghe, (Rtd.) Supreme Court Judge stated that the summons was issued to clarify the reasons for the imposition of the state of emergency.

She also said that water and tear gas attacks on protesters near the Parliament would be raised during the inquiry.

Accordingly, the Secretary to the President, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, and the Inspector General of Police are scheduled to visit the HRCSL between 9 am and 12 noon on Monday (9).

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) on Saturday (7) requested the Government to explain to the public the reasons for declaring a state of emergency as the protests were largely peaceful and within normal Police operations.
