Port Authority chairman to resign? Featured

The parliamentary subcommittee on high posts has started its work a year after its appointment, reports say.

It has already received complaints against heads of several state departments, corporations and authorities.

The subcommittee is presently inquiring into the educational qualifications of the Ports Authority chairman, which has prompted him to decide to resign.

Quoting a port spokesman, Eththa reports that the chairman, who had previously planned to privatize the east terminal of Colombo port, is now showing himself to be an anti-privatization figure, as an excuse to leave his position.

He is making public statements against the privatization of Trincomalee and Hambantota ports as well, and is being aided in that by certain port trade unions.
